Your reports show more impressions, yet the visitor numbers barely move. Flat visits do not always mean flat interest, since many customers now read your listing, compare options and make contact without ever leaving Google. Under zero-click searches in 2026, being seen and being visited are separate outcomes, and tracking only visits leaves out half the picture. Below: what is happening, five ways to earn enquiries directly from Google, and how to report results fairly.
Some searches finish where they start. Someone types a question, reads the answer in a featured snippet, knowledge panel, map listing or Google AI Overview, and closes the tab. No site visit happens, though the business may still have shaped the decision.
For zero-click search SEO, the goal shifts to making your business the name that appears when Google answers the question itself. Note that being cited in an AI Overview is not always a zero-click outcome, because Overviews carry links that people do open.
Between January and April 2026, roughly two in three US Google searches (68.01%) drew no click, SparkToro reports from Similarweb data, versus 60.45% in 2024. The data covers American web-browser users only; Google’s mobile app is excluded. AI Overviews are probably involved, SparkToro says, though the study doesn’t size their effect.
The data comes from the US, so for Indian businesses it points to a trend, not a measured local result. A brand’s reputation may be taking shape well ahead of any click. Visits are worth monitoring, though they capture only a slice of the story.
Fill in every field: services, phone number, hours, categories and recent photos. Your profile’s performance report counts calls, direction requests, messages and site taps, so customers can act without visiting your website. Accurate profile data is the core of local SEO.
Start each page with something customers actually want to know. Use headings that describe each answer and add concrete detail, such as areas served, steps involved and how long work takes. Such pages are easier for readers and search systems to interpret, and that is the everyday meaning of answer engine optimization (AEO).
Create pages that are authentic, factually sound and easy to navigate. Google’s own guidance says AI Overviews and AI Mode need nothing beyond ordinary SEO good practice; a page just has to be indexed and snippet-eligible. Inclusion is never assured, whatever the tactic.
Invite happy customers to leave honest reviews, avoid anything artificial, and reply to each one politely. Match your business name, address and phone number everywhere they appear. A consistent, well-reviewed presence reassures people before they ever make contact.
Look past website sessions. Monitor Search Console impressions and clicks, Business Profile calls, directions and messages, enquiries, qualified leads and sales where possible. Google includes AI feature appearances in ordinary Search Console totals, so separating them needs extra tagging or notes.
A click count understates what search does for you. Weigh four signals as a set: exposure, such as impressions and searches for your name; actions, such as calls and route requests; leads that merit follow-up; and income.
Keep attribution modest. A call recorded on your profile is a real interaction, yet it cannot show that zero-click discovery caused it. Google’s help pages even warn that logged calls may not match actual calls, for instance if a caller copies the number by hand or cancels before the line connects. Treat these as clues, not proof of cause. A simple ‘where did you hear about us?’ question fills the blanks your analytics leave.
Appearing without a click adds to your reach, yet the website remains the hub. Accurate, helpful, trusted businesses are the ones people phone, visit or look up by name. If you want help building that groundwork, see Findway Digital’s SEO and local SEO services.
It is a search where the person gets their answer on Google’s results page, from a snippet, panel, map listing or AI summary, and never clicks through to a website.
They can. A searcher may call, ask for directions or send a message from your Business Profile without opening your site. Since such actions cannot always be traced to zero-click discovery, log enquiries carefully.
Put Search Console impressions, Business Profile interactions, call tracking, a “how did you hear about us” field on forms and sales records side by side. Compare results month by month rather than fixating on clicks.
